Thanksgiving Celebration

Thanksgiving is a celebration we all know about here in the United States, but what we don't all know is the origin of this holiday, starting with the people who were there along with the types of food they ate, how long the festivities lasted, and what this holiday was called in the first place.

Students this week learned about the Wampanoag tribe and the nature of their relationship to the settlers. It is a heritage rich in culture, customs, traditions, food, celebration, and cohabitation.

This website link takes us through a personal investigation of the first celebration between the Wampanoag tribe and the Pilgrims.

Native American Heritage Month

This month, students learned about Native American tribes in the Northern and Southern parts of North America. Upper grade levels worked on a research project, outlining the various tribes, their eating habbits, types of homes, as well as languages.

Students used resources in the library (encyclopedias, databases, non-fiction titles) to compile this information. Lower grade levels worked on puzzles & activities teaching them basic information on several tribes.
